The long and the short of this is that if you have a radio transmitter, you MUST operate within the confines of some type of license.

Where a lot of confusion seems to arise is within the PRS (Public Radio Service) band. While PRS radios do not require you to pay a license fee, there are still radio regulations that MUST be adhered to when using PRS.  To see the regulations relating to PRS, click here.

We have written and article in this FAQ on PRS and simply lay out the regulations regarding this.

What needs to be clearly understood, you as the operator have FULL responsibility for ensuring what you have is legal to be operated for the purpose that you are using it for.  RSM have the power to prosecute (and they do!) if you are found to be using illegal radios.

Most radios imported in race cars from overseas do not meet the NZ Standards.
